LEAD — The National Science Foundation will continue to fund operations at the Sanford Lab until Congress approves a 2012 budget for the Department of Energy.
While the Department of Energy’s 2012 budget includes $15 million to fund basic operations at the lab, the continuing resolution prevents the agency from funding what is considered to be a new project until the budget is approved, Sanford Lab officials say. Therefore, since the National Science Foundation funded lab operations in 2011, that agency agreed to pick up the tab until Congress can pass the budget.
