PIERRE – The Legislature has changed its mind. The lab will get its $5.4 million.
Acknowledgement by the Department of Energy that the federal government must start planning for DUSEL and be ready to take over operations when the Sanford Lab runs out of state money in May of 2011 prompted legislators to change their minds Friday. The majority approved funding that will carry the lab from December 2010 through May 2011, when federal dollars will take over. With a 14-2 vote, the Legislature approved an amendment to the general appropriations bill that includes the $5.4 million necessary to continue operations at the Sanford Lab.
